Academic commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the execution of victims of political trials
On 3 August 2016, 65 years since the executions in the Babice trial, the representatives of the Jihlava Polytechnic University (Rector Václav Báča), the Vysočina Region (Governor Jiří Běhounek), the City of Jihlava (Deputy Mayor Jaromír Kalina) and Senator Miloš Vystrčil also paid tribute to the victims.
After the bouquets were laid at the memorial, short speeches of the participants followed. They ended with a minute of silence. In addition to expressing respect for the memory of those executed, the speeches emphasized the social importance of freedom, the necessity of building democracy and condemning the manifestations of totalitarianism in any form, including the threats associated with it. The rector stressed the importance of academia for reflection on history, the free presentation of opinions and the related open discussion.
